Rossi?s opinion of the Lorenzo negotiations

This quote comes from the Spanish language website elmundodeportivo.es. The message and the sentiment are clear: “You aren’t worth what I get paid Jorge”. From elmundodeportive.es, translation by Fans.Moto.GP (Thanks!): What Jorge is looking for seems presumptuous to me: Arrive at Yamaha, and in his second year ask that he be given the same treatment [...]

Bonuses, professionals and more UFC on Versus 4 notes

PITTSBURGH -- In the aftermath of the UFC on Versus 4 bouts, bonuses were given out and fighters talked about their nights.

-- $50,000 bonuses were awarded to Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz for Fight of the Night, Joe Lauzon for Submission of the Night, and Knockout of the Night to Cheick Kongo.

-- Brenneman, who had his original fight with T.J. Grant canceled, then stepped in at the last minute for Nate Marquardt, called the week surreal. He also said that he made weight so that he could get his show money. The waiting on if he would fight or not was hard, but he stayed calm about it.

"What can I do but sit there and wait for it to happen and be a professional?"

-- Rick Story was put in an odd position as his opponent changed. "I was prepared to fight a kickboxer with jiu-jitsu, not a shorter attacking wrestler. He got the better of me this time."

-- The attendance for the event was 7,792, and UFC president Dana White said that the UFC's first trip into Pittsburgh, "Didn't suck."

-- Matt Mitrione worked at Xtreme Couture with kickboxer Ray Sefo before this bout, particularly on the combination he used to knock Christian Morecraft out. He said the moment was just right to use the combination.

"I thought, what the hell, I might as well try it."

-- In Pat Barry's loss to Cheick Kongo, he came close to finishing off the man who eventually beat him. It appeared that referee Dan Miragliotta was going to stop the fight. Barry said that he did, for a split-second, think that the bout was going to be stopped, but that didn't stop him from attacking Kongo.

Brett Rogers arrested for domestic violence charges

Brett Rogers, who lost to Josh Barnett just over a week ago in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, was reportedly arrested for charges connected to domestic violence. He allegedly hit and choked his wife badly enough that she blacked out, lost a tooth and sustained several wounds. From My FOX 9:

Brett Charles Rogers, 30, has been charged with assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct -- all felonies --in Dakota County. He was also charged with endangerment of a child, a gross misdameanor.

His wife blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds. The couples daughter had tried to intervene after she saw Rogers strike her mother.

Rogers' wife has been in his corner at his fights, including his last three losses in Strikeforce. She was emotional and with him in the cage on June 18 when Barnett's hand was raised after choking out Rogers.

UPDATE: Dana White said that Rogers has been released from Strikeforce after the arrest.

Lensbaby Scout Fisheye review

I have been needing a fish-eye lens for my new Canon T2i HDDSLR for a while, so I was stoked when Lensbaby offered to send me their Scout fisheye to review. I had been looking at the verious 8mm fisheyes which provides a 180 degree field of view like the now classic death lens. The Scout is a 12mm lens and not quite as wide with a 160 degree field of view but is a lot cheaper than most fisheyes. As part of Lensbaby?s Optic Swap system, the fisheye optics can be switched out for other optics like pinhole or plastic lens. If you already have a compatible Lensbaby, you can buy the fisheye optic by itself saving around $100. I had been using the GoPro HD hHero for fisheye shots but that has it?s own limitations. Here is an unscientific comparison of the VX-2000 with a century .3X fisyeye, the GoPro, and the Scout.

I was impressed that the Scout was made of metal and has a very solid feel. The vignettes on the edges give images an early 90?s feel. The aperture is changed not with a ring like on other lenses but by switching out aperture disks. This requires you to unscrew the front element and drop the disk in place, a bit cumbersome when you are out in the streets but I doubt most people would need to change disks very often. I had a lot of fun shooting with a fisheye again and the Scout will likely be my go to fisheye for the foreseeable future.

If you are serious about shooting or filming skateboarding then you?ll want a wider, sharper, more expensive lens. If you are taking a more laid back approach and you think you may use other optics in the Lensbaby system then the Scout is worth considering. Below are a few skate shots taken with the Scout.

Kongo scores eye-popping comeback knockout over Barry

PITTSBURGH -- Mark Cheick Kongo down as a candidate for Knockout of the Year, as he survived a barrage of Pat Barry punches to knock out Barry in the first round of their main event bout at the Consol Energy Center for UFC on Versus 4.

The fight started slowly, with both fighters tentatively throwing leg kicks at each other. Then, Barry appeared to be on his way to a win with a right hand that staggered Kongo. Barry jumped on top to try to finish the bout, but Kongo survived and scrambled to stay on his feet. From there, he delivered two punishing rights that sent Barry straight to the canvas. Barry was out cold. The bout was stopped at 2:39 of the first round.

Both fighters had talked about how this bout would show off their more well-rounded games, but it still ended up a battle of two great strikers. Kongo showed off the strength of his chin in surviving Barry's strikes, and that he could stay calm and persevere for the win.

You tell us: Who will win the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix?

The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix is now more than half finished, with just three bouts left to decide a champion. The Final Four of Silva, Kharitonov, Barnett and Overeem isn't exactly what was expected, but every great tournament needs a few wrenches thrown in to make it compelling. Take a look at the first four matches.

Emelianenko gets overpowered by Silva: In his first fight after sustaining his first loss in nearly a decade, Emelianenko had to fight the much larger Antonio "Big Foot" Silva. He couldn't hold off attacks from Silva, and took several hammer fists when Silva was able to gain full mount. The fight was stopped before the third round could start.

Kharitonov makes quick work of Arlovski: A veteran of PRIDE and DREAM, the Russian fighter had no problem with the Belarussian Arlovski. A knee and an uppercut ended the bout in the first round, advancing Kharitonov to the semifinals.

Barnett smothers his way to submission of Rogers: Like Kharitonov, Barnett made his Strikeforce debut in the GP. He had no problem with Rogers, a fighter who has one-punch knockout power, but hasn't shown it in two years. Barnett barely let Rogers move in the first round before submitting him with an arm triangle early in the second round.

Overeem wins weirdly over Werdum: The match-up between Overeem, someone with unbelievable strength and striking, and Werdum, a world-class jiu-jitsu practitioner, should have made an interesting fight. Instead, it featured a frustrated Overeem, who couldn't land the shots he wanted to because Werdum spent much of the bout daring him to fight on the ground.

Now, having watched the four quarterfinal bouts, are your predictions on who will win the GP the same as when it started? Tell us who you think will win.

Rumor: BMW K1600R Six-Cylinder Naked Bike in the Works

We haven’t seen a good solid stirring of the motorcycle rumormill in a while, but today whispers of a BMW six-cylinder naked bike, a K1600R if you will, have be filtering through the web forums and into our ears. Father knows best: Advice from MMA?s dads

Fathers are known to dispense advice, so in honor of Father's Day, Cagewriter collected some of the best advice given to the MMA world.

Daniel Cormier, Strikeforce heavyweight: "My father died when I was seven, but the man who raised me, Percy Benoit, told me to work hard, you're a good person and good things will come to you."

Joe Lauzon, UFC lightweight:" My father was huge with 'Don't put off tomorrow what you can do today.' My dad has always hustled... no matter how well he did something, there was always room for improvement and he was going to squeeze out every ounce of improvement in everything he did."

Dan Henderson, Strikeforce light heavyweight champ: "My dad was my wrestling coach for most of my life, and then when I started MMA, he didn't know too much about it. But he'd watch my fights on TV, and I was fairly new in the sport, and he'd always have some sort of critique, even though he didn't know what the hell he was talking about. Even if I knocked the guy out, he'd say, 'It seems like he's hitting you an awful lot. Maybe you ought to move your head a bit.'"

Scott Coker, Strikeforce CEO: "My dad knew I loved martial arts, and he said find a way to make that your career, as you get older, because then you'll love it, and you won't have to feel like you're going to work. Find something that you love to do."

Sam Stout, UFC lightweight: "My dad's give me tons of good advice in my life. He's the one who taught me to work for what I believe in. He's a very motivated guy. He's the one who taught me to stick up for myself. He's the one who put me into sports and encourage me to play."

Aaron Simpson, UFC middleweight: "If you want to continue to be great at something, never be satisfied. He told me this after I won state my freshman year of high school."

A very Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, especially my father, who gave me the advice to not let idiots get in the way of my dreams. Thanks, Dad.

Older Overeem lacks fighting spirit in loss to Griggs

That's not the way you want to start a high level MMA broadcast. Valentijn Overeem, with a spotty 29-25 record coming in, bailed mentally from his fight against Chad Griggs. Overeem submitted due to strikes at 3:28 of the first round of the first Showtime fight on the Strikeforce card in Dallas.

The American prospect scored a takedown and fell into half guard. Overeem did a nice job of controlling Grigg's left arm. Once "The Grave Digger" freed his arm, he unloaded on Overeem. The older brother of Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem, turned to his side where Griggs pounded away. Seconds later, Overeem tapped to alert referee Kerry Hatley that he'd had enough.

Griggs landed 28 of 40 shots and picked up win No. 3 of his Strikeforce career.

Griggs (11-1) first exploded onto the scene with a 2010 victory over Bobby Lashley. Showtime announcer Mauro Ranallo foreshadowed the happenings when he said Overeem's less than stellar record was due to the fact that he hasn't always handled rough situations well.

Before fighting Cruz, Faber takes on internet tough guys

In the age of online gaming with strangers, anonymous internet commenting, and fake Twitter accounts, it can be easy for someone to hide behind a keyboard when ripping on others. With the help of Jareb Dauplaise from "The Hard Times of R.J. Berger," Urijah Faber has an answer for that. (Warning, lots of foul language in the video.)

Dauplaise didn't do much to prepare Faber for his UFC 132 bout, but he did serve up a nice reminder to the internet tough guys and gals of the world. You never know who is on the other side of that keyboard.

Johnson and Lamas win while controversy erupts at UFC on Versus 4

PITTSBURGH -- Michael Johnson, Ricardo Lamas and Charles Oliveira were early winners at UFC on Versus 4 on Sunday night, but one of the fight's results is still in question.

Johnson with quick win

In his first fight since losing in the finale of "The Ultimate Fighter," Michael Johnson put on a show in a first-round TKO of Edward Faaloloto. Though Faaloloto cut Johnson's eye early, he dominated most of the round with takedowns and strong ground and pound. Near the end of the round, Johnson clinched with Faaloloto, threw several knees and then knocked him to the ground with a big right. He followed up hammer fists until the referee stopped the bout at 4:42.

"It feels amazing after six months off to go in there and get a TKO. He's a tough guy. I knew he was going to bring it," Johnson said after the bout. "We were both fighting for a job or fighting for comfort. He came at me with a barrage, then I just took over."

Lamas shows off his striking

Ricardo Lamas won his UFC debut in impressive fashion, overpowering Matt Grice in the first round. Both fighters have a wrestling background, but much of the round was spent on their feet. Grice gave up a takedown, but it was in stand-up where Lamas shone. He wobbled Grice with a kick to the head, then followed up with a knee that staggered him. Finally, Lamas ended the bout and sent Grice to the canvas with a right hand at 4:41.

"I came into this fight wanting to mix it up. I think I had better standup and ground game. When I had the opportunity to take him down I did and when I had the opportunity to strike I did," Lamas said.

Oliveira vs. Lentz ends in controversy

An exciting bout between Charles Oliveira was marred by an illegal knee and poor refereeing. Oliveira won by submission, but the fight's result will be reviewed by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission due to an illegal knee.

Oliveira won the first round with strong striking. Lentz started with a quick takedown but had trouble with Oliveira's guard. When the fight returned to stand-up, Oliveira used knee after knee to control the bout. He knocked Lentz to the ground, and then jumped on top of him to sink in a guillotine. Lentz worked his way out of it, and then sunk in a guilllotine on Oliveira, who then worked his way out of it. Oliveira took over the round at the end when the bout went back to the ground. Oliveira threw short elbows until the round was stopped.

In the second round, Lentz took advantage of a flying knee by Oliveira to get a takedown, but that's where the fight went awry.

Oliveira hit Lentz with a knee while Lentz was on both of his knees. Though it appeared to be illegal, the fight was allowed to continue. Oliveira then took advantage, continued to hit Lentz and then sunk in a rear naked choke to stop the fight at 1:48.

The crowd in Pittsburgh erupted in boos and chants to protest the result, and an item was even thrown into the Octagon. UFC commentator Joe Rogan announced that the fight will be reviewed by the commission afterwards because of the illegal knee. Because the bout was stopped before the end of the second round and the knee was blatantly illegal, it will likely be turned into a no-decision.

Strikeforce workouts: Barnett locks on figure four and does his best Dusty Rhodes

Josh Barnett definitely has a sense of humor. Let's just hope the stiffs from the California State Athletic Commission do as well.

During Strikeforce's workout day, Barnett took the media on a pro wrestling journey. There was a back breaker, chops to the chest and even a figure four leg lock.

When he spoke to the media it got even better:

"I've been sitting on the sidelines, sitting there watching everybody go out and fight. Hard times have been on Josh Barnett. Dealing with athletic commissions. Everybody saying, 'You did this, and you did that. You're the problem for this.' That's hard times. Hard times for my family. Hard times for my friends. Hard times by me. Hard times not being able to get a fight. Hard times is the company, waking up one day, is saying they've been sold out to your competitor! Not knowing what the hell you're going to do. Where's my contract at? Where's my money? Where's my security? Who says I'm going to get that shot now? Having that on your mind? That's hard times."

Barnett then turned his attention to Rogers:

"And then you get this big old Brett Rogers in front of you. He thinks he knows what's tough. He thinks he's going to make a name off of my head. So I've got to get up every morning, break of dawn. I've got to get those running shoes on. I've got to hit that concrete; I've got to get those miles under my feet. My knees are aching, my body is sore. I've got guys like 'Hammer' beating on me every single day. I've got body breaking down, my mind getting pushed, feeling the effects of 14 years of fighting - feeling the effects of trying to put yourself in the best condition you can be in. Waking up every day having to deal with that? That's what hard times is about.

"I'm going to tell you what Brett Rogers. Come Saturday, American Airlines Arena? I'm going to give you a lesson in hard times. I'm going to take all that anguish, all that pain, everything that I have been through, everything all my family has been through, everything all my coaches have been through - I'm going to put that on you, Brett Rogers. I'm going to show you exactly what hard times is about. Who wants to see that? Not you, Brett Rogers. You do not want to see that."

Sound familiar?

Carano MIA and ‘Cyborg’ unsigned, how much longer will Zuffa-run Strikeforce stick with female fighting?

It's not looking good for female fighters with the biggest promotions. This week's Strikeforce Challengers card in Washington and next month's Strikeforce cards in Las Vegas and Chicago feature some female fights. After that, who knows?

The two biggest female names under the Strikeforce banner still don't have fights scheduled.

We're now a few weeks removed from Gina Carano bailing on her Strikeforce: Dallas fight and there's still official no word on what the injury was, or a timetable for her return. When Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke with AOL, he still had no answers.

"Gina is feeling much better after having undergone some medical attention and is looking forward to getting back into training very soon. She would like to express thanks to Team Jackson for a wonderful training camp, Strikeforce and the fans," said Coker, reading from a text message he received from Carano's management team.

Beyond that the boss didn't have any details.

"She evidently had some medical attention provided and she looks forward to getting back soon. So that's everything I know," said Carano.

Coker couldn't even answer if the medical issue was career threatening, saying the text was all he's seen.

The situation with Strikeforce's No. 1 female star is just as unclear, or is it?

Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos is currently without a contract.

"Absolutely. I'm pretty sad not to be fighting and I'm trying to renegotiate my contract for a year, but Strikeforce doesn't want to made a deal, they want to keep paying me what they paid before, but now I'm the event's champion and I've never been defeated in Strikeforce. I just wanted to be recognized," Cyborg said.

She also told Tatame that she has taken an August fight in Brazil and just has to wait until her Strikeforce contract runs out this month.

One has to wonder if this is the end of the line for Cyborg in Strikeforce. If Dana White has zero interest in female fighting in the UFC, why would he allow a company that he owns to lock itself into any more long-term contracts with female fighters?

South Dakota town bans MMA because of a bar fight

M-M-A are still three dirty and misunderstood letters. In many locales, you'll notice that any time a bar fight or scrap goes bad, if it involves someone who's ever stepped in an MMA gym, the blame will be placed on the sport. That's exactly what's happened in one South Dakota town.

A 28-year-old who belong to the Disciples of MMA club in Watertown was involved in a March bar fight. His opponent, Justin Jaton, died and the town has since banned MMA fights. Huh?

Jerrin Stulkin, who trains in Tae Kwon Do, is facing murder charges. (Video from KELO)

Three months later, according to The Republic, the residents of Watertown defeated a measure to allow an MMA fight within the city limits.

KWAT radio reports that Tuesday's vote was 841 people favoring the events and 1,228 people opposing them.

The City Council in May voted 5-3 to allow MMA events, a form of fighting entertainment that some label as barbaric. MMA opponents gathered enough petition signatures to force a citywide vote.

Mixed martial arts fighters use a variety of techniques, borrowing from boxing, wrestling and various forms of martial arts.

Promoter Mike Alama says he'll still hold fights in the Watertown area, but outside the city limits.

Did this really have anything to do with MMA? Of course not. The police description of the incident says it was even a fight.

"The term 'fight' should probably be used very loosely," said Detective Chad Stahl of the Watertown Police Department. "This was an assault."

Randy Leddy, a local bartender and MMA student, called the campaign to smear the sport silly.

"It's very frustrating for me that it has to be linked to MMA," Leddy said. "The cage fighting community had nothing to do with it - it was two individuals and liquid courage."

(NOTE: The Leddy quote appears to have been removed from the original story. It was saved from the story on MMA.tv.)

You still don't believe the fight and MMA are linked? Here's a follow-up story from April talking about how martial arts teaches you that it's proper to walk away from a fight.

With a population of 21,482, Watertown is the fourth-largest city in South Dakota.

Video analysis: Iole talks about Marquardt’s future

Nate Marquardt's situation looks pretty bleak right now. There's reportedly a press conference tomorrow so Marquardt can tell his side of the story. Because of HIPAA laws, both UFC and Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission have been tight-lipped on what the exact reason that prevented Marquardt from fighting at UFC on Versus 4.

Yahoo! Sports' lead MMA writer Kevin Iole filled us in on what he's heard about Marquardt and his future.

How to?build a home gym

When I moved into my new home, I spent a little time on reconnaissance for somewhere to train for climbing.
I initially thought a fingerboard would be the way to go. However, all the doorways were flimsy stud walls and not sturdy enough.
An alternative jumped out - Rock Rings by Metolius. If only I could find [...]

Attonito takes decision, Lauzon gets quick sub at UFC on Versus 4

PITTSBURGH -- Like his beloved Red Sox on Sunday in Pittsburgh, Joe Lauzon was a big winner at UFC on Versus on Sunday night.

He showed off his striking abilities with a dominant display, knocking down Warburton with a straight right followed by a left. He then jumped on him top of him, and followed up with a perfect kimura to end the bout at 1:58 in the first round.

"We were working on not rushing things, keeping my balance and staying fundamentally sound. I hit pretty hard, but we had about five or six things we wanted to work in rotation. The first one I threw was the one that landed and put him away. I'm always trying to hunt down submissions. I never leave it to the judges," Lauzon said after the bout.

Attonito takes decision

Rich Attonito won a decision over Daniel Roberts in a bout that started strong but ended weakly. He won the bout with the odd judges' card of 29-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

Roberts started strong in the first round but slowed down considerably as the round wore on. At first he threw big, impressive kicks, but was taken down by Attonito by the end of the round. Roberts began with a takedown in the second and took Attonitio's back, but could not sink in a choke. Attonito reversed him and used the position to ground and pound, landing several big shots in the final seconds of the round.

Attonito grew aggressive in the third round, peppering Johnson with leg kicks and punches. The exhausted Roberts' only defense was to move away, but that was hardly effective. Attonito then knocked Roberts to the ground and followed up with an onslaught of punches. Roberts survived and got back to his feet, but was very wobbly. He staggered around the cage and threw strikes where he could while Attonito continued to throw intermittent strikes. Roberts tried for a takedown, but Attonito wanted to keep the fight on the ground. In the final seconds, Attonito took the fight to the ground, but was unable to do anything to put the bout in danger.
