Aprilia Caponord 1200 Adventure Bike Spied

According to the folks at Motociclismo.it, this is the first shot of Aprilia’s new adventure-touring motorcycle, the Aprilia Caponord. Based on the 1200cc Dorsoduro chassis and motor, the Caponord (or Tuareg 1200 if you want to believe other rumors) was originally supposed to debut at the 2010 EICMA show, but is now apparently slotted for a later arrival. Details are scarce on the model right now, but it’s clear from the 17″ front wheel and ...

Honda Denies Using DCT in MotoGP ? Admits to Having New Faster Shifting Transmission

The Honda RC212Vs are fast this year, there’s no denying the point. The top four overall testing times at the second Sepang test were each slotted to one of the four factory Honda riders. The Japanese company is hungry for another World Championship in the premier class, something it hasn’t seen since Nicky Hayden took the honor in 2006, and its fielding of three very capable riders in the Repsol Honda squad is just one ...

Fitch no longer focused on title shot, just task in front of him

Jon Fitch took a beating and finished the fight against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87, but ever since, he's yearned for a second chance. The rematch against GSP hasn't come to fruition, so Fitch (on the right) has come to grips with the fact that he can't control what happens with the UFC welterweight picture. He needs to focus simply on winning and doing so in impressive fashion.

B.J. Penn is up next for Fitch, who says he's blocked everything out of his life.

"Even thinking that I'm entitled for some reason to be fighting bigger fights or that I should be getting more respect or hell just thinking about someone taking my parking spot," Fitch told Neil Davidson from the Canadian Press. "Any little distraction, any little thought that's not focused on where it needs to be I think is just a deadweight."

Fitch is 13-1 in the UFC, has won five straight and is ranked No. 2 in the world at 170 by the USA Today/Bloody Elbow top 25 welterweight rankings, but the former Purdue wrestler knows he's got no shot of getting GSP if he can't take out Penn at UFC 127.

"I think in the past maybe I've thought about too many things other than just the fight right in front of me. And maybe that's part of the reason why I haven't finished the last few fights, so that's another reason why I haven't really thought of anything other than just fighting B.J."

Fitch said he's trimmed down a bit to battle the smaller Penn. Penn was the UFC's lightweight champ until two straight losses against the current belt holder Frank Edgar. The American Kickboxing Academy fighter has also put in extra work to defend against Penn's jiu-jitsu game.

"I brought in one of (coach) Dave Camarillo's black belts from Modesto to help with some of the jiu-jitsu and I've put out some bounties for, submissions, too. The last couple of weeks, I've been offering guys $20, $25 a submission, if they're able to submit me. I've been able to avoid any payments thus far," Fitch said dryly.

The welterweight title picture gets very interesting if St. Pierre beats Jake Shields at UFC 129 in April. The plan is for GSP to move to middleweight, vacate his 170-pound title and challenge Anderson Silva. That means Fitch would have to be choice No. 1 to battle another contender for the vacant belt. Who that'll be, is anyone's guess. Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez fight next week at UFC on Versus 3. Carlos Condit has been on a hot streak, plus Koscheck and Shields are right there as well.

Fitch may not get GSP again, but the belt could be there for the taking before the end of 2011.

Completing the front row were Sylvain Guintoli and Leon Haslam, both quick in the dry times from Saturday’s qualifying. Conditions on Sunday led to some shake-ups in the order for the ...

Couture's son wins his second pro fight at Strikeforce Challengers

He's not exactly a chip off the old block, but Ryan Couture is showing a pretty good skill set for a kid who only made an MMA career a goal a few years ago. The son of UFC legend Randy Couture, won his second pro fight with a rear-naked choke at 4:40 of the third round against Lee Higgins.

"I just want to continue to get more comfortable in there," Couture said. "My skills held up there pretty well to what they do in the gym. I want to just pursue that comfort level. I think getting almost 15 minutes in here was a big help."

Couture's father is still an active fighter at 48 years old. He's held both the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titles. He was also an alternate on three U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling squads.

The younger Couture was ahead on the scorecards heading to the latter part of the fight before he landed the finishing move. He dictated pace throughout in both the standup game and the ground. The 28-year-old was constantly on the move going from side-to-side, switching stances and mixing in lots of kicks. A conventional fighter, he was effective as a southpaw  with both the outside kick to the front leg and some vicious body kicks with his left. But it was on the ground where Couture wore down Higgins.

Late in the first, he worked a standing guillotine choke and dragged Higgins to the mat. He transitioned to a tight d'arce choke. He had it locked on over the final 15 seconds of the round, but Higgins survived.

Higgins tried to close space and play the clinch game in the second. Couture stayed on the move and softened up Higgins with more leg and body kicks. With 2:35 left in the round, Higgins got lazy with his hands and got drilled with a right, that buckled his knees and dropped him.

He got right up but didn't have his wits about him and was taken down with 2:29 left and mounted 16 seconds later. Couture first worked for an arm-triangle choke. Higgins defended that well, so Couture took his back and eventually slapped on a body triangle. As he squeezed the air out of Higgins, Couture worked for multiple attempts at a rear-naked choke. While doing so, he pounded away at Higgins' ribs and got in some nasty punches to the side of his head.

Couture gave Higgins (2-1) a lot of credit for his defense on the ground.

"He was tough as nails. He was hand fighting me like crazy. He wore out my forearms," Couture said. "I can't hardly ball up my fists anymore. I was real glad I was finally able to get him there at the end."

Higgins was ineffective on the feet and again tried to get it to the ground early in the third. Couture's takedown defense was excellent. The Las Vegan bounced around the cage landing occasional shots and took down a tired Higgins again with 2:08 left. Now he was battling the clock. Couture quickly moved to take his back, flattened him out and spun him over where he once again locked on the body triangle. Couture worked several chokes that were very tight. With 20 seconds left, Higgins couldn't hold out any longer and tapped.

Couture has no set schedule for his next fight, but he looks like he may be able to carve out a solid career at lightweight. His father also got a late start to his pro MMA career.Randy transition from amateur wrestling to MMA at age 33. Of course, it was also very much an outlaw sport back in 1997 with little earning potential. His son is a drawing card and is certain to be part of a future televised Challengers card.

"I just want to continue to get more comfortable in there. My skills held up there pretty well to what they do in the gym," Couture said. "I think getting almost 15 minutes in here was a big help."

UFC 127 post-fight news: Bonuses, Bisping and Fitch

UFC president Dana White wasn't at the UFC 127 post-fight press conference, but the main players from the fights were.

-- The UFC awarded $75,000 bonuses to its top UFC 127 performers: Brian Ebersole and Chris Lytle won Fight of the Night, Kyle Noke won Submission of the Night for his quick choke of Chris Camozzi and Mark Hunt won Knockout of the Night for his nonchalant KO of Chris Tuchsherer. The UFC also announced that Aussie James Te Huna donated his fight purse to Queensland Flood relief.

-- After Bisping erupted after beating Jorge Rivera, White told him to keep his cool. Bisping then commented on a report that Rivera's camp believed that Bisping's illegal knee was intentional. For that and for spitting at Rivera's corner, they thought that Bisping should be suspended.

"Doesn't surprise me. One classless move after another," Bisping said. "The knee wasn't intended. I just threw it too early. He just needs to accept that he's lost and move on."

He did. He got under my nerves. He upset me. He embarrassed me."

Bisping did confirm that he is considering moving to Australia, but also said that he is a prod Englishman.

-- After fighting to a majority draw with B.J. Penn, Jon Fitch said that he was disappointed in his performance and that he wished his title shot was not a question.

Still, Fitch's performance in the third round was impressive. He outstruck Penn 134-0, landing 42 power strikes.

China's Zhang opens UFC 127 Facebook fights with a win

Tiequan Zhang is still a bit of a mysterious character, but there's no questions about the fact that he's a pretty solid MMA competitor.

Zhang dropped to featherweight for his UFC debut and smoked Jason Reinhardt in less than a minute. Zhang locked on a guillotine choke (pictured below) and nearly put Reinhardt out at the 0:48 mark of the first round in Sydney, Australia.

Zhang (18-1, 1-0 UFC, 1-1 WEC) is the first fighter from China to compete in the UFC. He made his Zuffa debut in 2010.

He looked extremely comfortable in this one, as he stalked Reinhardt from the start. Zhang followed the shorter fighter around the cage looking to land something big. He closed space along the cage and when Reinhardt dropped his head a bit, Zhang went for the choke.

Reinhardt pushed forward and the fight fell to the ground where he was caught in a nasty choke. He waited until the very second to tap. When Zhang released the choke, Reinhardt didn't move, he was groggy and out of it.

Zhang, 32, nicknamed "The Mongolian Wolf," is a sanshou specialist. His trainer said he's also recently been elevated to a jiu-jitsu brown belt. China is an untapped MMA breeding ground internationally. With a strong martial arts background, China could be quite the source for talent within the next five years. The market is also untapped and a big reason why UFC puts Zhang's fight on Facebook.

Perosh crushes Blackledge in UFC 205 debut

Anthony Perosh hasn't carved out much of a reputation in the UFC, simply because he's been a card filler at heavyweight. The Aussie was overmatched against the big guys. Today, down at more comfortable weight he was able to show off his vaunted jiu-jitsu game and blew through Tom Blackledge.

Perosh (10-6, 1-3 UFC) missed on his first two takedowns, but when he scored a third Blackledge was nearly helpless off his back. The Aussie scored that takedown with 3:13 left in the first. Perosh softened up Blackledge by raining down punches and then settle into the Brit's half guard. He quickly passed to the mount where Blackledge bailed and spun to his stomach. That was a bad move because Perosh locked on a rear-naked choke just seconds later forcing the tap.

Perosh suffered UFC losses in 2006 to Christian Wellisch and Jeff Monson. He took a beating against Mirko Filipovic last year at UFC

Sarah Kaufman offers to welcome Gina Carano back to the cage

During Saturday night's Strikeforce broadcast, former women's contender Gina Carano announced that she was returning to MMA after taking a break to film a movie. She did not have a return date or an opponent, but Carano will be back.

Sarah Kaufman heard this announcement, and was kind enough to offer her hospitality to Carano. She tweeted, "I would give Gina a fight that would force her to "leave it all in the cage" :D."

Kaufman, the former welterweight champ hasn't been in the cage since she lost her title to Marloes Coenen in October. Kaufman's weight of 135 lbs. would be a stretch for Carano, who has struggled to hit 145 lbs.

'Rampage' now wants Hamill: 'I'm gonna knock him into tomorrow'

All it takes is a little trash talk or perceived disrespect to get the juices flowing for Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Over the weekend on Twitter @rampage4real, the former UFC champ sounded disappointed that he was booked to fight Matt Hamill at UFC 130 in May.

Hamill is filling in for Thiago Silva. Initially there were rumors the fill-in would be Rashad Evans. That fight never came to fruition, so Hamill it is.

Jackson's manager Anthony McGann told Yahoo! Sports' that Hamill's been running his mouth and it's lit a fire under Rampage.

"We found out that Matt Hamill actually requested to fight Rampage. His camp pushed hard for it turning down other possible opponents. When Quinton found this out, his opinion rapidly changed on Matt Hamill," McGann said. "Matt's strategically aiming at Quinton with the words if he takes out the ex-champ then he's in the mix for a shot. Those are brave words considering Rampage just beat (Lyoto) Machida. So the fight is set for May 28, Rampage doesn't take lightly to being called out."

Jackson said bring it on.

"He wants me? Well, he can have me," Jackson told Yahoo! Sports. "I'm gonna knock him into tomorrow."

McGann also wanted to clear the air about what happened when Jackson was offered UFC light heavyweight champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on short notice.

"We were signed to fight Thiago Silva on May 28 in Las Vegas. He had some problems and we were told straight away," McGann said. "Around the same time Rashad (Evans) got injured and we were offered Shogun on short notice."

Rumors had it that Jackson was walking around in the 250-pound neighborhood in .

"Quinton wanted the fight but he was too heavy and there wasn't enough time. Both Thiago and Shogun, are guys that will get into a fight with Quinton, something his last two opponents haven't. (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva gave (Jon) 'Bones' Jones the opportunity (to fight Rua), as he was good with the short time and we waited for our opponent."

McGann explained that the Hamill offer caught Team Rampage off guard.

"We were given Hamill on the May show and initially Quinton was disappointed. Matt just wasn't one of the guys he has been focusing on. He really wants Rashad again or Stephen Bonnar because both guys are disrespectful to him," McGann said. "He respects Matt as a tough opponent and he believes that Matt is someone who will put on a show which is what he loves to do. He just had never paid him no mind until Joe Silva offered him."

Silva was forced off the card because some of his drug test samples, from his win at UFC 125 over Brandon Vera, were in question.

Prater kicks losing ways with quick win over Travers

Carlo Prater wanted to turn the page from an awful 2010. He didn't waste much time doing so. The 29-year-old veteran, who lost 3-of-4 fights last year, put Bryan Travers to sleep with a modified anaconda choke just 38 seconds into their fight at Strikeforce Challengers in Cedar Park, Tx.

Prater (26-10-1) was emotional about the victory.

"No one likes to lose and my record says I'm not a perfect fighter. I'm sorry I'm crying like a wimp, I'm just very emotional," said Prater, who grew up in Brazil and then Houston. "I'm coming off a series of losses. It's been a long couple of years."

Prater lost 2-of-3 fights last September in Shine's lightweight tournament. He was one of the favorites coming in, but fell to both Rich Crunkilton and Drew Fickett. He was just 2-6 since the middle of 2008. Keep in mind, this was a guy who started off his career with an 11-1-1 record, including wins over Carlos Condit and Spencer Fisher.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt charged forward from the start, landing an inside leg lick, a left hand and when Travers (15-3) tried to work the clinch, Prater scored an easy trip takedown just 16 seconds into the fight. Within three seconds, he secured the choke. Travers was out pretty quickly. Referee Jon Schorle was a little slow in stopping the fight (0:58 mark).

Phil Davis stepping in for Tito Ortiz at Ultimate Fight Night 24

Phil Davis is getting his shot to move into the upper echelon of the UFC's light heavyweight division. The undefeated fighter is stepping in for Tito Ortiz at Ultimate Fight Night 24 and will take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Ortiz, who was last seen in a Twitter spat with Forrest Griffin, reportedly suffered a cut in training that forced him to withdraw from the fight.

Ortiz's cut is Davis' opportunity. He had originally been booked for a fight with Jason Brilz, but now is headlining the UFC's stop in Seattle as well as taking on a respected veteran in "Little Nog."

Davis had a breakout year in 2010, fighting four times and winning four times. He topped off the year with a Submission of the Night with over Tim Boetsch at UFC 123. When he last spoke with Cagewriter, Davis laughed off the idea of a title shot. But Davis has a chance to make a big step towards the top of light heavyweight division with a win over Nogueira.

Fedor vs. Silva weigh-in: Biggest head size discrepancy in the history of MMA?

This truly is a new era in mixed martial arts. Fedor Emelianenko dominated the heavyweight class for the better part of 10 years during an unbeaten run that started back in 2001. At 230 pounds, the Russian isn't massive, but his skill set and mental game is off the charts. With so many MMA heavyweights cutting weight to 265 pounds, is that enough anymore

Antonio Silva (below right) is one of those guys. The 6-foot-4 Brazilian giant weighed in today at 264. His features are freakish. Check out the size of his dome as compared to the smaller Fedor.

Update: We forgot about Hong Man Choi (pictured on right)! That's a huge head too!

This is a big man's card. The other Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix quarterfinal features Andrei Arlovski against Sergei Kharitonov. They looked fit at a combined 492 pounds. Shane del Rosario and Lavar Johnson were imposing figures as well. The main card on Showtime features five heavyweight bouts.

SHOWTIME card weights (Courtesy MMAjunkie):

Fedor Emelianenko (230) vs. Antonio Silva (264) - heavyweight-tournament quarterfinals
Andrei Arlovski (242) vs. Sergei Kharitonov (250) - heavyweight-tournament quarterfinals
Shane Del Rosario (248) vs. Lavar Johnson (243) - heavyweight-tournament reserve fight
Chad Griggs (229) vs. Gian Villante (227) - heavyweight-tournament reserve fight
Valentijn Overeem (239) vs. Ray Sefo (249) - heavyweight-tournament reserve fight.

HDNet PRELIMINARY CARD

John Cholish (155.75) vs. Marc Stevens (156.5)^
Igor Gracie (170.75) vs. John Salgado (170)
Don Carlo-Clauss (170.4) vs. Sam Oropeza (169.75)
Josh LaBerge (145.75) vs. Anthony Leone (146.2)*
Jason McLean (145.5) vs. Kevin Roddy (145.75)

The more you climb, the better you?ll climb

I have had a few days away from climbing - in fact, my last session was 3 weekends ago at Froggatt - and so I got back to the gym this week. My local gym has an auto-belay setup so I was able to do some indoor routes without company.
And I struggled! Struggled to get [...]

Kurt Pellegrino's many skills include freestyle rapping

In getting ready for his UFC 128 bout with Gleison Tibau, Kurt Pellegrino spent time training with his good buddy Kenny Florian. He was so inspired by the UFC lightweight-turned-featherweight that Pellegrino turned Michael Jackson's "Beat It" into a song about training with KenFlo. Be warned, Pellegrino drops a few dirty words in his rap, but he felt the beat. Who can blame him?

For more on which fighters make the best freestyle rappers, follow Cagewriter on Facebook and Twitter.

Watch the Ducati Diavel Get Built in 1 Minute

Here’s a cool time-lapse video put together by MCN that follows the 2011 Ducati Diavel power cruiser getting built at Ducati’s Bologna factory. Ducati is currently building 40 Diavel’s per day on its rolling assembly line, but that number is set to increase by 50% in the coming weeks as the Italian company predicts strong sales in the summer months. As was seen last year with the Multistrada 1200, Ducati expects the Diavel to lead ...

Lesnar picks Fitch; White can already see his nightmare on the horizon

It's all coming together perfectly. Georges St. Pierre could be leaving the welterweight division soon and the man to beat will be Jon Fitch. Fitch is a great fighter, but seems to drive UFC management, led by the president Dana White, nuts because he usually wins by decision. When it was time for Junior dos Santos and Brock Lesnar, on the set of Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter," to pick UFC 127's main event they had trouble deviating from the usual Fitch script.

Both fighters picked Fitch to take out B.J. Penn via decision. That's not surprising since Fitch has won five straight decisions and his last eight have gone the distance. What was surprising was Lesnar actually throwing down some Fitch knowledge. when he made his selection, he seemed to be aware of Fitch's game.

Each time Lesnar has been asked in the past to pick a fight, it's clear he really doesn't own a computer or watch much television. He fights, but doesn't watch the stuff.

Penn is the smaller fighter at 170 pounds and may have trouble keeping Fitch off him. White's nightmare would be another three-round lay and pray with Fitch rolling to a win and into position to fight for an interim welterweight belt.

White's first vlog for UFC 127 (NSFW) also includes the immediate aftermath of Anderson Silva's amazing kick that finished Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. UFC matchmaker Joe Silva calls the champ some sort of mother[expletive] and White kept saying "I've never even seen that before."
