Damacio Page was determined to right his wrongs of the past against Brian Bowles. He tried to hit the home run from the get-go, but made one mistake and lost the same exact way he did back in 2008 against Bowles via guillotine choke. Even crazier? Bowles won the fight at the same exact moment, the 3:30 mark of the first.
"He hits hard. I was kind of expecting that from him," Bowles said of Page's aggressiveness in the opening minutes. "I was able to use footwork last time.
Bowles' compact style and movement kept him safe from Page's onslaught in the opening minutes. Page came to the battlefield throwing everything with bad intentions - kicks, knees and huge overhand rights and lefts. Bowles kept enough distance to avoid the big strike.
With two minutes in the first, Page got a little overanxious and threw a sloppy kick that got caught. Bowles pushed Page to the ground and threw with reckless abandon in Page's guard. When Bowles backed out the guard for a second, Page scrambled to get up and left his head exposed. Bowles latched on the choke and put Page to sleep before referee Chris Kinman stepped in to make it official.
"It's my signature move. I hit it all the time in the gym," said Bowles.
This was Bowles' first win after a year layoff. Last March, he suffered broken hands in his loss to now UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz.
